I feel Mei's story is one to be pitied, not hated. She went crazy in the palace. I can imagine if she didn't have Jia or Wei's influences on her, she could've been just as strong an ally to Ruyi as Souxin or HaiLan. In the end, she fell to her grief over her ill-fated child. Stating no matter what he looked like his mother would always love him. She was so young, to go through so much. I've heard of concubines in the Forbidden Palace going crazy from loneliness, or postpartum, or being infertile. I feel Mei's story is one that represents that well.

I watch this and see them fight for power, money, status. I saddens me that these people could have done such good if they weren’t worried about who was going to end up on top. They used their children to the pint of death. I hope this is drama for the show but I think this must have been based is some truth.

Whenever I watch this episode, it really breaks my heart seeing the empress giving up and just wanted to be free from the Emperor. The emperor doesn't know how to love. Yet, he realized it only after the passing of Empress Ruyi.

This scene just cements the fact Ruyi is not fit to be a queen. She considers herself as his wife, his equal but he is an emperor, a man with such authority that his even his wife can never be equal to him. I know she is a good person but she was never a good empress. The only person who can be a great empress is someone like Hailan who doesnt love the emperor but is calculating and smart with her moves
